Abstract

This study intended to find the role of social support towards gifted adolescent’s social adjustment process in regular school. This study used qualitative methods through in-depth interviews with 3 subjects adolescents boy who has a level of intelligence (IQ) above 130 and aged 13-18 years later attending regular school. This study was conducted over four months (March 2014-May 2014). These results indicate that parental support plays an important role on the process of social adjustment of gifted adolescents. The greatest role of parents was as motivator and supporter. Role as a motivator takes the form of esteem support and informational support for gifted adolescents. The role of parents as supporters take the form of instrumental support (instrumental support). Through these forms of support, parents are expected to contribute actively to develop the gifted adolescent psychosocial side then gifted adolescents are also expected to understand themselves and have a good self-acceptance.
