Abstract

The purpose of this research is to find out the correlation between identity disclosure and social support among young adulthood gay, how the correlation occur between those two variables, and also the forms of social support that correlates. According to Cass et al. (Beeler & DiProva, 1999) , identity disclosure is a significant task that one homosexual must get through in order to form a solid and complete identity. One of the factor that correlate with identity disclosure is social support. The quantitative data for this particular research was collected from 53 young adulthood gays that were questionnaired. Meanwhile, the qualitative data was collected from four subject by in-depth interview. The method of this research is called sequential explanatory strategy, which is by combining the quantitative as the primary method and qualitative as a second method for specific interpretation. The quantitative results, which was analyzed with Pearson Product Moment correlation calculation of SPSS 12.0 version. indicates that in fact there is a significant correlation between identity disclosure and social support among young adulthood gay rxy (53) = 0.325, p < 0.05. The level of significant is 0.017. The forms of social support that correlates with identify disclosure are esteem support and network support.
