Abstract
Women in freely chosen marriages are more satisfied with their marriages than women in arranged marriages. Women in arranged marriages are less able to adjust the differences of temperament, perspective, and life philosophy with their spouse so they often cause conflict. Conflict that occurs in marital relationship needs conflict management. Kilmann and Thomas (in Wilmot & Hocker, 2001) have five styles of the conflict management used in this research. The aims of this research are to describe the factors of marital satisfaction and the style of conflict management. This research uses qualitative method with interview technique. The respondents are four Tionghoa young adult women who have experienced arranged marriage and also conflict in their household. The data collection is started on March 2009 until May 2009. Based on the result of the research, it is known that four respondents have conflict in overall factors of marital satisfaction, except sexual life conflict. The conflict management style mostly used is compromise style.
