Abstract
The purpose of this research is to design a valid and reliable obedience testing instrument. Obedience can be defined as an individual behavior that is willing to do what he is told or expected to do, and usually the status of the person who gave the order is higher than the order taker’s status. The testing instrument is focused on obedience toward parent and obedience toward teacher or lecturer. The researcher selected the samples from students that are considered as late adolescent (age 17 to 24 years old). The researcher obtained 179 participants (84 males and 95 females) from X University. This research produces (1) testing instrument to measure obedience toward parent and testing instrument to measure obedience toward teacher or lecturer, each of the two resulting in 30 statements that act as test items and work instructions for the test respectively; (2) testing instrument to measure obedience toward parent and testing instrument to measure obedience toward teacher or lecturer have already been declared reliable based on internal consistency reliability; (3) testing instrument to measure obedience toward parent can be assumed valid based on content, face, and construct (except for evidence from distinct group: sex evidence), and testing instrument to measure obedience toward teacher or lecturer can be assumed valid based on content, face, criterion, and construct; (4) the designing process of this obedience testing instrument also generates percentile rank norm.
