Abstract

"Depressed, and distressed feelings, occasionally crying often appear to mothers after delivering, whereas they should have been happy because the presence of their child. A lot of factors are assumed to contribute creating depressive symptom. One of them is social support factor, which in this research will be focused on the husband’s support since the husband is the main and only person who gives support to his wife during her pregnancy, delivery, and aiterbirth period. 5 The method being used in this research is depth interview. The respondents in this research are three persons, one of them is a career woman and the others are housewives. Respondents are women who just delivered a baby, the first born healthy baby, without complication. Pregnancy was from the legal marriage. Family support (support from family members) as well as the presence of a baby sitter tend to reduce the postnatal depressive symptompsThe result of this research concluded that women who obtain emotional support from their husbands as well as going informational and being appreciated, will not show postnatal depressive symptom. On the contrary, the absence of the husband’s support tend to make the women relatively experience the postnatal depressive symptom. The first and the third respondent did not have any of these symptoms. The first respondent had obtained husband’s support during the pregnancy and after the birth of the baby, but the third respondent had obtained husband’s support only afterbirth. The second respondent felt that there was not enough husband’s support during the pregnancy and afterbirth, as well as emotional, appreciation, and also informational. She experienced the symptom when her baby was one month old. Similar experience among the three respondents is the presence of the baby brings major change in their life and considered ac mam imnnfiant "
