Abstract

Since 5000 years ago, meditation has been used as rituals in religions. Nowadays, meditation is assured to increase one’s physical and mental health. it a has been proven by some researches which stated that one who was practicing meditation will show increasing level on alpha waves that bring the feeling of I peacefulness. The aim of this research is to get information about meditation and it’s influence to mental health of a middle aged person. Raja yoga meditation is a way of concentrating by using mind’s ability to reflect and to influence the self to get the power for directing the mind and fixing attention to certain object. According to Maslow, a person who is mentally ghealthy is a self-actualized person. A self actualized person is someone who has realized all of his potentials. Middle aged person is someone whose age is between 40 to 65 years 1 old. The method being used in this research is qualitative, case study with depth interview and observation. This research used 5 respondents who have been practicing meditation at least for 3 years. The result of this research shows that meditation gives positive influence to mental health of the respondents. These respondends feel more patient, calm, independant, and be able to accept differences. suggestion for the next research is using quantitative method to prove the effectiveness of mediation to mental health
