Abstract

This research try to describe the personality profile of a wife who killed her husband. The profiles made in this research are based on Erikson's personality development theory, theory of domestic violence, and theory of psychological impacts of battered woman. The methodology used in this research is qualitative along with in-depth interview held approximately in 3 months, from 1st November 2005 to 25th January 2006 and 23, 25, 27 February 2006. The subjects of this research are three convicted women in Lembaga Pemasyarakatan Wanita, Tangerang. The husbands of all the three subjects are abusive and cheat. The findings of this research showed several factors that lead a a woman kills her husband are related to immature personality development stages because these woman experienced inappropriate personality development. This immature personality development resulted in a particular personality pattern or personality profile. Two of the three subjects meet dependent personality disorder diagnostic criteria and the other meet avoidant personality disorder diagnostic criteria. Furthermore, those personality factors are interacted with environmental factors thus creating spesific behavior, manslaughter by a wife. All the three subjects do not feel guilty for murdering their husband. In general, it can be said that there is a significant interaction between psychological and social factors.
