Abstract

There are three kinds of ADHD: (1) Attention Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder Combined Type, (2) Attention Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder Predominantly Inattentive Type, and (3) Attention Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder Predominantly Hyperactive-Impulsive Type. Each of its type fulfills the criteria to decided for six months and the symptoms have begun before the age of 7. The Orff method of music therapy has been proven to helping children to deal with problems in controlling the hyperactivity behavior. The participants in this research are three students of PANTARA Jakarta, the special school for problematic child, and the children who participated in this research are suffering from Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD). These music therapy program was conducted in 8 session each 30 minutes. The Orff method is using rhythmic approach, sounds, gesture, movement, and singing improvisation and playing simple percussion equipments. The result indicates that music therapy changed the behavior of the children in the sense that they can control their emotional responses better. The impact of the duration of the treatment is also being determined by the relationship of the participant and the therapist, the family support, and the involvement of the subject with the environment.
