Abstract

"This research aims to look at the effect of cooperative learning methods on students’ achievement motivation. The achievement motivation is seen from students’ attitudes toward the things which are related to teaching learning process. One way to enhance students’ motivation is through cooperative learning method. In cooperative learning, the students are engaged in small groups, helping one another to allow for task completion. Using cooperative learning, each group member takes responsibility for his/her own learning and help the other members learn as well. When the students teach one another, they tend to learn something more deeply. The participants involved in this research are the sixth graders of YPBS elementary school located within the Intercon Area, West Side of Jakarta. Their age is between 11 up to 13 years old and group is divided into two: control and experiment group. The number of the participants is 44 students. The experiment group is intervened 12 times as long as 70 minutes each meeting. Data processing in this research uses SPSS program version 14.00 by which the researcher denotes the difference of achievement motivation subsequent and prior to the intervention. Through the statistical estimation obtained significant value 0,44 < 0,05. Based on this result, it’s obvious that achievement motivation differs before and after the intervention. In other word, intervention using the method of cooperative learning is effective to promote the achievement motivation among the pasticipating students. "
