Abstract

The relationship between perception of parental involvement and academic achievement in Mathematics was examined among 141 junior high school students. Participants completed a questionnaire assessing parental involvement in Mathematics. Mathematics achievement was assessed using Mathematics rapport in odd semester study year 2005/2006. The relationship among two variables was examined in every levels of school (7th grade, 8th grade, and 9th grade). The relationship among two variables in 7th grade was analysed using Spearman Rank Order Coefficients of Correlations, but the relationship among two variables in 8th and 9th grades was analysed using Pearson Product Moment. Result revealed that there is no correlation between perception of parental involvement and Mathematics achievement in 7th grade with r(60) = -0.072, p > 0.05. Analyses in 8th grade revealed that there is no correlation between perception of parental involvement and Mathematics achievement with r(33) = -0.080, p > 0.05. Result in 9th grade also revealed that there is no correlation between perception of parental involvement and Mathematics achievement with r(42) = -0.006, p > 0.05.
