Abstract
For generally, the freshman students in university, have few friends from the same school or city. This situation push students to interact in the new environment. They need someone to share. The students which have high self-esteem can be more easily to interact and begin to make friends. But the low self esteem's students tends to be doubtful and hard to interact with one another. Research measurement tool like questionnaire given to 114 respondents of 2002 generation of Psychology Faculty of Tarumanagara University, and data was proceed by SPSS computer program for windows release 9.00 Hypothesis test by Pearson Product Moment Correlation. The result shows that there is a positive correlation (r = 0,500) between self-esteem with the need of affiliation for the freshman student.
