Abstract

"The purpose of research is to see the extent application of behavior modification that uses chaining technique can increase hand washing activity independently, the time before and after eating to residual type schizophrenia patient. Behavior modification is a procedures and techniques involving various aspects to change maladaptive behavior. One form of behavior modification is chaining. Chaining is a technique to train a behavior by providing a range of behaviors to be an entity behavior to do by subject. Schizophrenia is psychotic disorder that affects the harmony in affect, cognitive, and behavior. One of the types of schizophrenia is residual schizophrenia. This type of schizophrenia is characterized by disturbances that are sustainable without active symptoms. One of the characteristics is two or more negative symptoms, in this case the concrete deprivation is personal hygiene. Deprivation are part of self-care deficit. Self-care deficit is the state of individuals sustained impaired ability to perform self-care activities. The activity of care themselves included wash hand. Researchers intervened three schizophrenic residual type with purposive sampling technique, which sampling only on individuals who are based on consideration and certain characteristics. Results of this study are the differences between the results before and after the intervention did. The difference before the intervention, three subjects did not have a routine in doing hand washing but after doing hand washing intervention, these three subjects can be independent and do a routine patterns to perform stages of hand washing correctly, especially before and after a meal at a time morning, afternoon, and evening. "
