Abstract

Young adult women have had conscience that controls their behavior in order to get adjusted with their social environment. Aceh young adult women who live in Jakarta may be influenced by the social values of Aceh. Social values of Aceh are normally being implemented to children through parental education. Different social values may influence the perception of these adult women toward their parents. This research is aimed at finding out the Aceh young adult women”s perception on their parental discipline. This research is qualitative research. Methods being used were depth interview and Observation. lnterviewed was conducted on subject (aged 22 years), single, at least having high-school education, and having older or younger brother with age difference 1 to 3 years. Subjects live in Jakarta, but occasionally visit Aceh. Results indicated that they could accept the parental discipline since they considered that the discipline was based on democratic concept in making a decision. They expected that they could obtain more freedom in some customs yet remains appropriate in accordance to the culture, such as in determining their dress and attire. Subjects were not against their parental dicipline although the expect to get more freedom in conductiong their personal life
