Abstract

Interpersonal communication is an Important aspect in human relationship, it is also an important aspect in one's life during adolescent period of development. Interpersonal communication is transforming messages which includes emotion and thought translation into verbal and non-verbal clues that enhancesawareness of one's self-concept and feeling (Baker, 1984). Supratiknya (1995) mentioned that self-acceptance was a basic condition for a person to be able to communicate with others. Self-acceptance is an attitude of how a person satisfy with the self, the quality of the self and personal ability as well as personal limitations ( Chaplin, 1997). This research is aimed at finding correlation between interpersonal communication and self-acceptance. Subjects were 60 adolescent (aged 15-18) from SMUN-LXV in Jakarta Barat. Data collection was conducted by using questionnaires based on Likert Scale and Pearson Product Moment f Correlation was conducted by used to test the hypothesis. Results indicated that on the 1.0. s < 0,05 there was positive correlation between the two variables. This means there was positive correlation between self-acceptance and interpersonal communication. The better a person accept the self. The better he or she could develop interpersonal communication. It is important that education pays more attention on self-acceptance so that teenagers could improve their interpersonal communication
