Abstract

Self esteem is an important factor for adolescent. Low self esteem will hamper adolescents psychological development. The building of self esteem influenced by many factors, but one factor influencing the most is family, especially the parents” role. Although commonly known that the divorced parents will result negative effect for the children's self esteem, but this research was conducted for the specific target of students in the Christian and Catholic school to see whether there is a significant difference between adolescent from intact family and adolescent from divorce family in their self esteem or not. This research was using non-experimental method with non-parametric statistic computation fordthereason of small number of samples employed. The samples of this research were48 adolescents who came from SLTPK Kanaan, SLTPK Anugerah, SLTP Melania ll, and SLTP Strada Mardi Utama I, which located in Central Jakarta. The instrument used for collecting data in this research was a questioner. The result showed that there is no significant different with F (3,079) at 0.05 significance level. This indicates that self esteem between both groups, adolescents from intact family and adolescents from divorce family, was having no significance difference which might be refers to the other factors that make such conclusion.
