Abstract
Stress is the individuals response to situations or events that are the source of stress, which is manifested physically, emotionally, cognitively, and interpersonally. Gifted students who join the acceleration program have a probability to experience stress because of the demands and pressures that they experience. There are two purposes in this study, the hrst is to know whether there is a relationship between the student's perception of the implementation of acceleration program and stress in the academic area. While the second purpose is to know whether there is a relationship between self-efficacy and stress in the academic area. The data in this study was obtained from 99 gifted students who join the acceleration program in the junior high school level. Subjects are taken from SLTP Al-Azhar Kemang, SLTP Al- Azhar Kelapa Gading, SLTP Labschool, SLTP Permai, SLTPN 41, and SLTPN 49. The data collection was done using a questionnaire based on Likerts summated rating scale. Data analysis used the Pearson Product Moment correlational computation with the assistance of SPSS version 11.00. The result of this study shows that there is a significant relationship between perception of the implementation of acceleration program and stress in the academic area in gifted students, rxy(97) : -O,21 1, p < 0,05. Moreover, the result of this study also shows that there is a significant relationship between self-efficacy and stress in the academic area in gifted students, rxy (97), p < 0,01.
