Abstract
Killing indicates a high and uncontrollable aggressivity level. The legal consequence of killing a person is being in the correctional institution. Adolescent males who kill their victims will become inmate in correctional institution for children and adolescent. Commonly, correctional institutions do not focus on aggressivity problems. Without special intervention, their aggressivity level will stay the same. There are different approaches that might be used to reduce adolescents’ aggressivity level, one of which is solution-focused brief group therapy (SFBGT). The aim of this study is to implement seven sessions of SFBGT to reduce male inmates’ aggressivity level in a correctional institution for youth in Tangerang. This study used the one-group pretest-posttest design. The independent variable is SFBGT and the dependent variable is aggressivity level. The participants in this study are five adolescent males recruited from a screening process of 90 inmates. The sampling technique in this study is confirming sampling and purposive sampling. The participants’ aggressivity level are being measured before and after intervention using the Buss-Perry Aggression Questionnaire – Short Form. The difference was compared using the t-test method. Observation was made during each session and individual interview was conducted after and before the intervention to explain the different outcomes experienced by participants. This study found that SFBGT has effectively reduced adolescent males’ aggressivity level in the correctional institution for children and adolescent. Four of five participants showed lower aggressivity levels after the intervention. One participant showed higher aggressivity level because of family situation during intervention.
