Abstract
This study entitled A case study on the application of Behavior Modification with roleplay techniques in improving communication patterns between schizophrenic sibling in the family. The aim of this study was to obtain an overview of the benefits of the application of behavior modification to improve and enhance the communication between sibling who had schizophrenia. The research method used is a qualitative research method. In this method, researchers developed the concept and gather facts, using interviews and observation techniques. Sample of this study is a family member who has a communication problem with schizophrenics, and are at the early adult age range that is above 20 years. This study uses the theory of communication patterns Rose of Leary and using methods of intervention in the form of roleplay developed by Mueser & Glynn. From these results it can be concluded that the communication problems experienced by research subjects include the form of criticism and angry expression accompanied by barriers such as lack of communication when meeting with people with schizophrenia. In addition it is found that the application of behavior modification with the roleplay method combined with psychoeducation can help to improve communication of research subjects with schizophrenia patients, the use of family psychoeducation also help research subjects to gain a new understanding of the disease of schizophrenia along with the steps that must be applied to support the family recovery of people with schizophrenia. The advice given in this study was to conduct further research using behavior modification techniques that other methods so as to know the effectiveness of behavior modification methods are more diverse the communication patterns between schizophrenic sibling in the family. For family members (brothers) are expected to always apply the communication patterns that have been studied at each intervention session and always keep an eye on medical treatment for patients with schizophrenia.
