Abstract

This research aimed to get more detail description about stress endure the housewives infected by HIV. This qualitative research used General Adaptation Syndrome Theory from Hans Selye (Davison et al., 2004). Data collection was conducted by in depth interview since November 2006 until April 2007. The subjects consist five housewives infected by HIV, 18-31 years old, bundle in marriage, and live in Jakarta. Results indicated that four from five subjects infected by HIV from their husbands that consumed drugs before, and three from that four subjects didn’t know before that in fact their husbands were ex-drugs users. One subject said that she infected by HIV because she was drugs user. Only two from five subjects interviewed experience exhaustion stage. Although the experienced, the two subjects get back to normal because of supports from their family and neighborhood. The other three subjects have good adaptation ability in resistance stage.
