Abstract
"Adolescents who experience parental divorce and left by his/her parents tend to feel lonely and rejected by their parents. This is worsened if these adolescents are sent to an orphanage. They tend to feel abandoned and rejected. This situation make adolescents depressed and need to disclose their feelings. However, there is an absence of a parent role who pro-actively asks the adolescents to tell stories which make them difficult to express their feelings. Therefore, they need the medium of catharsis in order to express their feeling. The catharsis tool that can be used is art therapy in the form of drawings, because in art therapy someone can express things that can not be expressed in words.This research uses a mixed method approach, involving five participants. This research is using Parental Acceptance Rejection Questionnaire, Multidimensional Experiential Avoidance Questionnaire - domain Repression and Denial, and semi structured interview. The quasi-experimental study design was conducted by comparing the pre-test and post-test scores after performing 8 art therapy sessions. The results show that art therapy is relatively effective to be used as a cathartic medium for adolescents who feel rejected due to being sent to an orphanage because of parental divorce. This is because in art therapy, participants are asked to express their feelings visually, so that participants can express things that cannot be expressed in words."
