Abstract
Family is the smallest unit in society. Within the family there is a father, mother and child. A mother will feel complete as a woman if you already have a child. But sometimes the sex of the child becomes a big problem for some families, especially parents or in-laws of the couples. For parents who grew up with particular cultural and social environment, has a son in the family is imperative. One way that can be taken to bring the boys, namely by way of adoption. In conducting the adoption, the mother experienced a conflict since the ideas of adoption is given until the adoption process and child care adoptions take place. This study seeks to see the picture of conflicts that occur and the coping is being done to deal with conflict. The subject of this research is the mother who did the adoption, age range 35-40 years. This study uses qualitative techniques, in-depth interview. The results showed that the four subjects experienced approach-avoidance conflict and using problem focused coping (caution exercised and instrumental action), and emotional focused coping (seeking meaning and minimization).
