Abstract
The adaptation concept of a chinese mother that have a down syndrome son with cognitive capacity having intellectual disability. In the chinese family custom, is expecting much that his wife can give him a first male child. But if the first male child grow with some abnormality, that can make the mother that gave birth to the child showing negative response. For A mother that give birth to a child with down syndrome abnormality, The appearance of down syndrome child can be some problem for the parents also can effect the early reaction and the adaptation of the parents. A mother with a down syndrome child needs an adaptation, especially for a chinese mother that have a first male child, because the importance of a first male child on chinese custom and tradition. The main purpose of this research is for find out or acknowledge The adaptation concept of a chinese mother that have an down syndrome son with cognitive capacity having intellectual disability. The research subject was 3 mothers, with a range of age from 30-50 years old. The child with range of age 14-22 years old, with IQ from 35-40 until 50-55. The first male child that have a down syndrome abnormality. The research took time from 14th November until 15th December, the result of the research is showing that all 3 mothers can adapt well with the condition, Haber and Runyon (1984).
