Abstract
In the world of education there are children who have the intelligence to significantly below average children are referred to as mental retardation, in which one level is Moderat, has an intellectual 40-54, so it has come in meeting the limitations of daily activities, such as community development activities and needs self-learning or training on a regular basis to foster self-reliance . Teachers should be able to provide social support, such as serving as well as possible through the attention, respect, security, give advice or suggestions to solve individual problems, especially for guiding the child's independence moderate mental retardation. Teacher of social support in an effort to guide the independence to foster self-confidence, sense of responsibility, able to take decisions dan control emotios. The study was conducted in October 2011-February 2012, at the special school in West Jakarta. The results of the research interview to the four teachers who teach children with moderate mental retardation was found that, the teacher form of teaching self-reliance by implementing self-development program, such as exercise clothes, brushing teeth, then the teacher is able to give praise and motivation through the given tasks. Furthermore, counsel, guidance, advice to guide you in learning may be provided by students or parents.
