Abstract
Old age is the life stage when a person experience deterioration of physical, psychological, social functioning and become more susceptible toward chronic illnesses such as heart diseases and psychological disturbances which lead them toward health deterioration. Psychological problems among old people who suffer from coronary heart diseases can cause heart attack and even death. Therefore, social support is necessary for them in order to increase their psychological well being thus reducing the risks of the coronary heart disease. This research is aimed at finding the relationship between social support and psychological well-being of the old people who suffer from coronary heart disease. This research is based on social support theory by Wills & Fegan (Sarafino, 2006) and psychological well-being theory by Ryff (1989). Questionnaires were distributed to 245 middle old. Data analysis was using SPSS 15 and the result is r = 0.0180 ; p= 0.0005 <0.05, which means that there is significant correlation between social support and psychological well-being of the old people who suffer from coronary heart diseases.
