Abstract
"As culture and knowledge grow increasingly, marriage between two different cultures is common. According to Olson and DeFrain (2003), intercultural marriages require couples to adapt to different elements of culture. Different cultural couples can cause various conflicts in marriage, especially couples with different Chinese cultures and Batak. Chinese people who place suspicion on people outside their tribes and also the attitude of the Batak people who are aggressive towards people outside the Batak ethnic group can cause conflict. The purpose of this study was to describe the conflict in different pairs of Chinese cultures with Batak. This study uses the method of in-depth interviews as a way to extract marital conflict data and questionnaires as supporters of the results of interviews. The study lasted for three months, from November 2013 to January 2014. The study involved two married couples, namely two male subjects and two female subjects (four subjects) young adults aged 20-40 years who experienced six conflicts from ten source areas of conflict proposed by Petersen (2007). This study found that all subjects experienced conflict and even quarreled with their partners in married life. "
