Abstract

This study aims to determine the mother's self-efficacy in providing sexual education. In Indonesia there are 777. 761 people with mental retardation (MR). Mental retardation is not a disease, but a state that individuals showed impaired intellectual functioning which began during development (Saragih, 2011). Cases of sexual harassment often occurs primarily in young women with ID due to cognitive limitations. Bandura (1997) stated that self-efficacy is an individual's belief in their ability to influence the way individuals react to certain situations and conditions. Self-efficacy can be influenced by several factors, including the factor; (A) mastery experiences; (B) vicarious experiences; (C) social persuation; and (d) physiological and emotional states (Bandura, 1997). This research uses descriptive qualitative method to three middle adulthood Mom to give a more in-depth descriptive of the mother's self-efficacy in providing sexual education. The study took place in the span of five months, beginning in February 2014 until June 2014 The results showed that all three subjects generally have enough self-efficacy in teaching sexual education because has two of the four components of self-efficacy.
