Abstract

Several previous studies have found a correlation between learning approach to learning achievement, but there is no research that uses the context of English subjects in junior high school students in Jakarta. This study aimed to examine the correlation between learning approach to English learning achievement of tenth grader junior high school students in Jakarta. Data collection was carried out in November 2014. The subjects in this study is a tenth grader junior high school students in Jakarta, the number of subjects as much as 266 students. Selection of subjects using purposive sampling method. Measuring instrument used is the scale of learning approach that created by researcher with theoretical studies. Analysis of data using Spearman correlation with SPSS 15.0. Result show that there is a no relation between learning approach (surface, deep, and achieving) to English learning achievement of tenth grader junior high school students in Jakarta. Correlation between surface approach to English learning achievement obtained r value of – 0,068 and (p) = 0,270 > 0,05., between deep approach to English learning achievement obtained r value of - 0,033 and (p) = 0,597 > 0,05., and between achieving approach to English learning achievement obtained r value of - 0,053 and significance (p) 0,390 > 0,05.
