Abstract

ASD comes from the word auto which means itself. ASD (Autism Spectrum Disorders) is a developmental disorder that thoroughly interferes with cognitive, emotional, and psychomotor functions in children. The motoric development of some children is generally normal, and some others experience delayed development. This delay can occur in one or more fields, such as problems with gross motor skills. The gross motoric reaction of children with ASD is excessive because the perception of ASD children on everything they receive is completely different from the perception of a normal child. ASD children tend not to do a variety of normal playing activities that require good motor skills and coordination. The gross motoric abilities of children need to be trained because gross motor skills affect the level of fine motor skills whose ultimate goal is to improve aspects of a child's life. Gross motor movement requires energy, and requires coordination and precision. Playing music can help the development and coordination of motor skills. Rhythmic motion is used to develop physiological range, combining mobility / agility / strength, balance, coordination of breathing patterns, and muscle relaxation. ASD children are more difficult to use the left brain, so music is very helpful for ASD children, because music is directly related to right brain activity. Playing musical instruments one of them is not pitched percussion namely, djembe. Djembe percussion is very helpful in the gross motor development of ASD children. The researcher chose and used a type of nonrandomized pretest-posttest control group design. The data obtained were analyzed using the Wilcoxon test, for the calculated Z value obtained -1.913 and p = 0.056> 0.05. It can be concluded that there was no significant difference in the gross motoric development of ASD children between the experimental group and the control group after being given djembe percussion music training.
