Abstract

Loneliness is the reaction of the absence of a certain type in a relationship. Couples who undergo commuter marriages will experience a physical separation that led to feel lonely. This study used qualitative methods with in-depth interview technique that aims to give an overview loneliness middle adulthood women who undergo commuter marriage being left by her husband who works abroad. The research was undertaken within 8 months, starting in January 2016 until August 2016. The subjects involved in this research were four women with an age range of 40-60 years who have husbands oil company employees outside Indonesia. The results of this study indicate that the three subjects who underwent commuter marriage just feel lonely at the beginning undergo commuter marriage, then the three subjects was accustomed to undergo commuter marriage. While one subject was still not accustomed to undergo commuter marriage. Nevertheless, the form of loneliness felt by the fourth subject is the emotional isolation because all four subjects feel the loneliness caused by commuter marriage that must be endured. Living a long distance relationship since they were dating and had routine activities undertaken by the subjects used to make subjects undergoing commuter marriage. Technological advances have also become a solution to live a distance marriage and family so that the subject can communicate seamlessly.
