Abstract
Batak Culture is one of the cultures that demand for married couples to have sons to continue the clan. For wives who can’t provide boys need to have self-acceptance in order for them to function well in everyday life. Self-acceptance is an individual who views positively about himself and his life, accepts his inner characteristics, and accepts all the adventages and disadventages he has. According to Hurlock (2006) there are ten factor that can affect self-acceptance. The purpose of this study is to get a self-acceptance of the wife of adult middle age in Batak tribe who don’t have a son. This research was conducted in Balige, North Sumatera by interviewing four subjects. The results showed that each subject has different self-acceptance. Two subjects, JS and RP already have self-acceptance overall of ten factor, while the other subjects, RS dan MS have not received themselves. RS has no self-acceptance as she gets demands from her husband’s family. In addition, MS has not received themselves in overall because she can not control her feelings in the faceof criticism in the environment. While the JS and RP accept themselves because there is no demands from the family. Wife in the middle age of Batak tribe can have good self-acceptance if get support from environment and family which do not require to have son.
