Abstract
"Researches founded that music is correlated with personality. The purpose of this research is to find the correlation results between rock music preference and the big five factor personality types in Young Adulthood musician. This research aims to find more about the relation between music preference and personality types by using more specific music genre and subject. Researcher used 67 musicians with high preference for rock music (scored 6-7) and 25 musicians with low preference for rock music (scored below 6) so there’s overall total of 92 musicians that work professionally in music, obtained by using purposive sampling technique. Researcher used The Big Five Inventory (BFI) and Short Test of Musical Preference (STOMP) in the form of paper questionnaire and online questionnaire to collect data from participant. This research was carried out for about 2 months. Based from the data analysis result, the overall rock music preference is significantly positive correlated with openness to experience (r = 0,261 with p = 0,012 < 0,05) as well as conscientiousness (r = 0,226 with p = 0,030 < 0,05) and significantly negative correlated with the neuroticism personality (r = 0,340 with p = 0,001 < 0,01). "
