Abstract

The aimed of this research to determine effectiveness of discussion method in improving motivation learn mathematics on students of high school “A”. The research conducted is quasi experimental research, using the experimental design one group pretest- posttest design. Subjects in this research amounted to 26 students of class 10 th social major. Student learning motivation was measured using a measuring tool adapted from Motivational Strategies Learning Questionnaires- Chinese Version (MSLQ-CV) consisting of 44 items. The understanding of motivation to learn derived from the understanding of motivation according to Schunk, Pintrich, and Meece (2008) is the process of learning activities are encouraged and maintained. Data analysis using parametric statistic that is paired sample t-test. The results of this study indicate that method of discussion are not effective in improving motivation learn mathematics on students’ of high school A. (t = 1,607; p = 0,121).
