Abstract
Learning motivation is a process that encourage and direct learning activities. There are some factors that cause high school students to fail, such as (a) students itself, (b) family, (c) teachers, and (d) peers. All these factors encourage students to study. Lower learning motivation causing students don’t pay attention when teacher teach, don’t care with difficult subjects, cheating on assigntment, and skipping school. This study aims to describe high school student characteristics who failing a grade. This study lasted nine months, started from September, 2017 until May, 2018. Screening using criterion sampling technique and build rapport to four students who consent for interview. After that, in-depth interviews have been conducted to all of the participants. This study shown that all the participants have learning motivation but still fail. Low of tolerance, low of resilience, low of responsibility, and no modelling teaching is the cause of the failure.
