Abstract

Since the student year 2017/2018, the study duration of Indonesia student reaching 8 hours per day. Which the prolonged sitting duration with minimum physical activity can lead to have low back pain. LBP is a health problem that comonnly happens in the elderly or the young people. From 291 health conditions, LBP is in the 6th that causing disabilities in global level.From various factors, sitting is one of the factors that caused LBP. This study purposes to determine the relationship of sitting duration to the incidence of low back pain among the medical students. The method of this study used analytical-cross sectional and used non-random consecutive sampling. This study took place in Faculty of Medicine, Universitas Tarumanagara, Jakarta city, involving 109 medical as respondents. Each subject answering questionnaire assessed for low back pain. From the result, those were 102 respondents who sit in prolonged duration and who sit in normal duration were 7 respondents. From 97 people with low back pain, 94 of which sit in prolonged duration and the three remains sit in a normal period. The fisher test P value is 0.03 thus this study considered significant statistically, which means there is a meaningful relationship between prolonged sitting and the low back pain incidences.
