Abstract

The Effect of Cold Pressor Test on Blood Pressure of Tarumanagara’s University Medical Students Class of 2016 Cold temperatures can cause vasoconstriction which can further affect blood pressure in the form of an increase of the total peripheral resistance.This increase of the total peripheral resistance could lead ultimately to the increase in blood pressure. The Cold Pressor Test exposure causes major changes in the cardiovascular parameters with the most important being an increase in blood pressure through the occurrence of peripheral. The research carried out was conducted from an experimental study by following the subject's blood pressure prospectively before and after intervention to determine whether or not the effect occurred. The sample used was 60 students from the medical faculty of Tarumanagara University. The 60 subjects then divided into 2 groups, 30 subjects each. The first group will be applied to the Cold Pressor Test method and the second as the control group will be applied to the placebo test. This study uses a paired t-test and Cold Pressor Test procedure by measuring blood pressure before and after intervention, i.e before and after immersion of hands into the water. The purpose of this study is to know the difference in systolic and diastolic blood pressure before and after the Cold Pressor Test is done on the class of 2016 students of medical faculty of Tarumanagara University. The results showed that there were significant differences in systolic blood pressure before and after hand immersion in water (p = 0.001) and there were no significant differences in diastolic blood pressure before and after immersion in water (p = 0.076). This study concluded that there were significant differences in systolic blood pressure before hand immersion and after immersion of hands into the water, namely an increase in blood pressure and no significant difference in diastolic blood pressure before immersion of hands and after immersion of hands into water.
