Abstract

The overview of Salmonella sp.-positive stool culture from Indonesian workers in Klinik Taman Permata Indah Jakarta, July 2015 Salmonella sp. is a Gram-negative bacterium that can cause typhoid and paratyphoid fever. This disease is endemic in tropical and subtropical countries, especially in Indonesia. Typhoid and paratyphoid fever are transmitted through food or water contaminated by feces or urine of patients or carriers that do not maintain personal hygiene. Manifestations of typhoid and paratyphoid fever can cause death or the person who ingested it becomes a carrier. This is concerning to the citizens of Taiwan as one of the workplaces for Indonesian Workers. The aim of this study is to describe Salmonella sp.-positive stool culture on migrant workers in Klinik Taman Permata Indah, July 2015. This study is using a descriptive cross sectional study design. Data were collected from medical records as secondary data, which includes the number of patients, gender, stool culture result, age and region of origin of the migrant workers who undergo the examination. Results obtained from this study are that from 608 samples of Indonesian workers obtained, there were 26 (4,3%) workers who showed positive culture results with the bacteria Salmonella sp. In the category of gender, 14 (53.8%) women showed positive culture results. Based on the type of Salmonella sp. Bacteria, the highest positive culture is obtained by Salmonella paratyphi A with 22 (84.6%) positive results. The range of age that has the highest positive culture result is between 21 to 25 years old, as many as 14 (53.85%) samples originated from West Java. Results from this study are expected to be used for further research.
