Hypertension is one of public health problems in worldwide in recent decade. Many Studies have shown that hypertension was primary risk factor in the development of stroke, ischemic heart disease, and renal failure. Treatment of hypertension may reduce the risk of stroke and myocardial infract up to 40% and 15% respectively. Lifestyle modifications as a part of hypertension management have demonstrated strong evidence in lowering blood pressure, enhancing the efectiveness of anti hypertension drugs and also reducing cardio vascular risk. Dietary modifications as one of the lifestyle modifications components have a high impact in reducing blood pressure. Such dietary modification according to food intake guidelines as suggested by dietary approach to stop hypertension (DASH) includes high intake of fibre rich food, fruits and vegetables, lean meat and variety of nuts, skim, or law fat milk, small ammount of less sugar and salt. it is also important to take into account the energy intake, the quantity and quality of protein, component of fat and carbohydrate consumed. in addition to that, minerals and vitamin rich food, spesific nutrients, like omega-3 fatty acids intake has a good impact, not only in good management of hypertension therapy, but also to prevent the prevalence of the disease.
