Abstract

The term Prangwedanan was firstly used by Mangkunagoro I since he was an Adipati (a title for government officer in charge of regency in colonial era) in Puro Mangkunegaran. The term Prangwedono was used for the crown prince before he was crowned to be a king or Mangkunagoro. Prangwedanan was a residency for the crown princes, although not all of them used it. The history mentioned that there were only several crown princes resided in this place, namely Mangkunagoro VI, Mangkunagoro VII, and Gusti Prabu Kusumo (KGPH Radityo). As a result this place were never fully operated until Mangkunagoro VII ruled the regency. He was given a set of dining room and pantry interior furniture by the King of Karangasem from Bali, so several of Balinese artisan carvings were sent to Surakarta to manufactured the furniture, They were placed in Prangwedanan and Pantri Putro throughout the process.
