Abstract

The Pulo Gebang Rusunawa which was established in 2013 was a relocation facility for low-income group from various locations in Jakarta. The fact is, there was changes in socio-economic conditions of occupants post-relocation, such as job losses, low employment opportunities or further distance to older jobs which cause the decreased income or increased expenditure, as well as changes in social interaction and kinship as they are new communities. Theoretically, several studies have shown that relocation leads to changes in location and dwelling characteristics. In some other studies also show relocation caused in the socio-economic changes of residents. This study aims to determine the socio-economic changes of residents post-relocation to Rusunawa Pulo Gebang as well as its relation to location and dwelling characteristics changes. The result of comparative analysis shows that there are significant changes in the socio economic variables of the residents, where from 14 variables it’s proven that 7 variables decreased while 2 variables increased. In addition, there are significant changes in location and dwelling characteristics, where from 18 variables it’s proven that 7 variables decreased while 6 variables increased. The result of correlation analysis shows that there is a significant correlation between location and dwelling characteristics changes with socio-economic changes, where 6 variables are related to the change of occupant participation in community group, 2 variables related to family income change and 2 variables related to family expenditure change.
