Abstract
For several decades, being an entrepreneur has gained better image from the society and offer a broader prospect of success in obtaining financial independence. Today, parents are also accommodating more on their children’s choice of becoming entrepreneur. The encouragement of the parent has been shown on previous research on how they implement entrepreneurial upbringing pattern at home and how this upbringing pattern creates higher level of children’s entrepreneurial attitude orientation (EAO) at primary school. Research also found that employment status create different level of EAO. This study was intended to explore the relationships between EAO, employment status, and intention to adopt entrepreneurial upbringing pattern of mother with primary school age children. We randomly surveyed on a sample of 278 mothers from 5 national plus primary school in Jakarta. The proposed hypotheses were: 1) the higher EAO will generate the higher intention to adopt entrepreneurial upbringing patter, 2) there will be a different EAO based on employment status.The hypotheses were not entirely supported statistically, that only hypotheses 1 was statistically proven. We proofed that the higher EAO of a mother, the higher is her intention to adopt entrepreneurial upbringing pattern. However, we found no differences of EAO based on employment status.Theoretically, the implications of this study will reinforce previous studies in the realm of EAO, especially on how demographic factors affect EAO. In practical terms, this study demonstrates the importance of maintaining and enhancing positive image of entrepreneur, since there is not any different EAO between the employed and unemployed mother. If previous study shown that entrepreneurial upbringing pattern can foster children’s EAO, this study emphasizes the importance of cultivating EAO of a mother as essential element in developing one’s entrepreneurial characteristics in future.
