Abstract

The increase in the number of elderly causes an increase in health problems, one of which is related to hypertension. Because with age, the elderly experience a decrease in body systems and functions. This is one of the causes of cardiovascular disease, including hypertension which is an important risk factor for cardiovascular morbidity and mortality. Inappropriate use of drugs will have a large and detrimental negative impact on the health service unit or agency as well as on patients and the community. Therefore, it is necessary to select and use drugs appropriately, so that drug administration interventions can achieve the target, namely healing patients with minimal drug side effects and patient instructions for using drugs can be obeyed. The purpose of this study was to determine the use of antihypertensive drugs and the rationality of prescribing, namely the right indication, the right dose, and the right drug in the elderly at the Pulo Gadung District Health Center for the period July - December 2020. The research design was descriptive with a cross-sectional approach. The samples analyzed were 96 patients who met the inclusion requirements. The results of the study of antihypertensive drugs used at the Pulo Gadung District Health Center were angiotensin-converting enzyme inhibitors, calcium antagonists, and thiazide diuretics. The percentage of use of antihypertensive drugs, namely the class (Captopril) as many as 19 patients (19.8%), calcium antagonists (Amlodipine) as many as 65 patients (67.7%), and thiazide diuretics (Hydrochlorothiazide) as many as 12 patients (12.5%). The pattern of using rationality for the treatment of hypertensive patients who meet the exact indications is 100%; right drug as many as 55 patients (57.2%); and the right 4 dose as many as 94 patients (97.9%). Overall, there were 54 patients (56.3%) who met the three rational prescribing criteria.
