"This research was aimed at finding whether the depression could be used as a predictor for eating disorders or there is another factor could caused eating disorders. This research was conducted at Psychology Faculty of Tarumanagara University in Jakarta with a sample consisting of 30 female students with the academic year 1994 until the academic year 1997. Based on the depression theory, such as Levinson theory, Freud theory, Jung theory, Pope & Hudson theory and the other theory who said that depression could caused eating disorders, so the writer proposed the temporary hypothesis: there is a relationship between depression and eating disorders. In this research, the answer of female students in depression questionnaire and eating disorders questionnaire were analyzed with the Pearson product moment coefficient correlation formula, with a one tailed test and 0,05 level of significance, in order to find out whether there was a correlation between the two sets of scores. After that, the writer continued with regression analysis to obtain a regression equation, which included eating disorders as a predictor variable and depression as a criterion variable, which is, caused eating disorders. The result of data analyzed show that xy is smaller than 2,05 which except Ho, This means depression could not be used as a predictor of eating disorders."
