Abstract
"For centuries, educational practitioners have been trying to understand human intelligence. The concept of intelligence quotient, multiple intelligences, and emotional intelligence are among of the famous intelligence theory of the century. In 1997, Stoltz published a new theory of intelligence, adversity intelligence. Adversity intelligence is an individual intelligence in facing adverse situations in life. This research was conducted to understand the correlation between adversity intelligence with interpersonal intelligence, and the correlation between adversity intelligence with type A personality of lecturers at Tarumanagara University. Interpersonal intelligence is the ability to differentiate and understand an appropriately feelings, temperaments, motivations, and desires of others. Type A personality is a personality characterized by competitive achievement orientation, an unrealistic sense of time urgency, anger and hostility. Subjects of this research were lecturers of Tarumanagara University Jakarta, academic year 19991 2000. The reason for choosing lecturers as a subject were because they assumed as persons who confront many adversities on daily academic work. The result of this research will be able to give an understanding for the university academic practitioners about adversity intelligence, interpersonal intelligence and type A personality, and apply it for a successfully teaching method at Tarumanagara University. The correlation between adversity intelligence and interpersonal intelligence was +.2547 and significant. Lecturers with a high level of adversity intelligence do not always have a high level of interpersonal intelligence. The correlation between adversity intelligence and type A personality was +.0144 and not significant. Type A personality lecturers do not always have a high level of adversity intelligence. "
