Abstract

The aim of this research is to answer how divorce women comprehend with their meaning of life? According to Frankl's meaning of life theory, when a person could comprehend with the life, even suffering would not be considered as the end of life; on the contrary, it is something that contains meaning for one's life. Using depth interview and observation, this research was conducted upon two women who were divorced by their husbands and two women who filed divorce to their husbands. The result shows that all subjects regained their meaning of life although they had experienced bitterness due to the divorce. During the divorce period, all subjects felt their lives as the period of bitterness since their marriage were not last as being expected. Two of the 4 subjects who filed the divorce experienced the feeling of meaningless in their life; meanwhile in the preliminary stage after the divorce, all subjects experienced an enduring period of sufferings. However, they could overcome their feelings from being suffered, and realized that their lives remained meaningful. They realized that life contained struggles, to over come the bitterness and the meaningless into the meaning experience. This might not be an easy task to do, yet through acceptance they finally could surpassed the suffering. As they could surpass the situation, they even became stronger when they had to deal with many other problems in their lives.
