Abstract

This research want to know which variables have significant relation with the pre-marital sex intercourse intention of junior students at university of Tarumanagara. It is important to study the pre-marital sex intercourse intention among adolescence, since is a tendency of increased pre-marital sex intercourse among students and its related problem such as sex transmitte disease, AIDS, and abortion. The researcher ant to know factors that caused the adolescence to engage in pre-marital sex behavior. To answer the problem, the research uses Planned Behavior Theory from Fishbein Ajzen (1988). The theory explains that human being always behave Iogically, considering all information and implicity or explicity considering the implication of his/her behavior. It means that the individual will always think before act. The theory has three components. The first, the attitude to a certain behavior is a result of two factors: (1) one's belief toward the consequence of his/her specific behavior, and (2) his/her evaluation toward the possible outcome. The second component is subjective norm. It is a social element, (1) one's beliefs of what other people think he should do and (2) his/her motivation to fulfill other's expectation. The third component is the perceptive behavioral control that involves the idea that certain behaviors have stronger control than others. All of the above components combine each other to establish one's intention in reflecting his/her behavior. This research uses descriptive method with qualitative analysis and quota sampling as sampling technique. Internal consistency reliability technique (alpha Cronbach realibility) is used. To measure the dicriminative power of the items, the researcher ises item total correlation. For data analysis, linear product moment correlation by Pearson (r) is used (0.05 significant level). The result proves that the subject attitude toward pre-martial sex intercourse behavior is negative. The subject significant persons (subjective norm) did not agree with the premarital sex intercourse behavior. The subjects feels that he only has a weak control (perceived behavior contorl) toward pre-marital sex intercourse and therefeore the intention is relatively weak. Moreover the result shows that (1) there is a postive correlation between attitude and intention toward pre-marital sex (r=.5196, p=.00), (2) there is a positive correlation between subjective norm and intention toward pre-marital sex (r=.6319, p=.00), and (3) there is a positive correlation between perceived behavior control and intention toward pre-marital sex (r=.5183, p=.00). Finally, the researcher hopes that this research could be useful for the society. Especially to give more understanding about pre-marital sex intercourse and negative consequences which may occur.
