Abstract
This research is intended to study the correlation between social support with personality characteristics of hardiness among working mothers. Social support can be defined as the form of instrumental aid or any psychological aid which is given to the individuals in time of difficulties. Social support could be come from one’s social network, such as friends or family, which will be felt as the expressions of love, care, worth and comfort feeling for the individuals. Hardiness is personality characteristic which include an internal sense of control, a sense of commitment, and a positive response to challenge, that makes the individuals stress-resistant and to buffer the individuals’ health from the stress’ negative effects. The subjects of this research are working mothers, with total of 100 people. The data is collected by using questionnaires that based on Likert Scale. Based on analysis that used Spearman Correlation method with SPSS program version 12.00, it’s found out rs(100) = +0.38, p < 0.05. This shows that there is significant positive relationship between social support with personality characteristics of hardiness among working mothers.
