Abstract
Domestic violence has become problems between some married couples and it also carries long term negative impact to the children. Witnessing father's abusive behavior toward mother is a painful and stressful experience for a child, since a child may be fragile psychologically. Witnessing domestic violence may create a child's negative perception toward the world and the self. Meanwhile the quality of family life significantly influences a child in developing his or her social skills and in finding a life partner in the adult years. This research is aimed at finding possible correlation between domestic violence between parents and the daughters' perception on marriage in their adult years. There were 30 subjects participated in this research. They were adult single females aged 20-40 years, with education at least high school. They experienced witnessing domestic violence conducted by their fathers to their mothers. They did not have any counseling experience related to domestic violence. Data was collected by using questionnaires. Analysis of correlation was conducted by Pearson Product Moment suing SPSS program 9.01 for windows. Resutts indicated that there was negative correlation between domestic violence and daughters' perception on marriage life. When children perceive their fathers conduct more violence on their mothers, these children tend to have more negative perception on marital relationship. This research also found that compare to psychological and physical violence, financial violence of husband to wife had the strongest correlation with the daughters' perception on marriage life.
