Abstract
Mountain climbing is a high-risk sports, yet climbers remain eager to climb mountains despite its risks. Zuckerman (1994) explained that those who prefer to challenge high-risk activity tend to be sensation seekers. The sensation seekers tend to put high value on the risks they could obtain from their experiences. Success and failure to climb a mountain may influence one's self esteem. This research was aimed at finding correlation between sensation seeking tendency and self esteem among mountain climbers. Samples were 117 mountain climbers of Indonesia. Results indicated that there was significant correlation between sensation seeking and self esteem (r=0,348; p<0.01). Thus, the higher the tendency of sensation seeking of the mountain climber, the higher his or her self esteem.
