Abstract
Many reports have claimed that personality relates with birth order. But others considered that personality was related with parenting style. There is also an opinion said that in terms of parenting, parents often apply them based on the birth order. The way parents educate their children will influence their attitudes and behaviors which determines their personality. On the other hand, children perception upon their parents education may not be similar to their parents style of education. This research is aimed at finding the differences between the influence of birth order and the influence of child rearing style on extrovert personality. Extroverted personality may supports the children to be more socially adjusted, but in extreme conditions may also lead the children to be difficult to manage. Study between parenting and personality is F = 6.103 and p = 0.000 < 0.05 for the father’s parenting, and F = 2.892 and p = 0.035 < 0.05 for the mother’s parenting. Study between birth order and personality is F = 0.139 and p = 0.871 > 0.05. Results of this study showed that parenting has a bigger role in develop the extroverted personality than birth order.
