Abstract
Indigo child is a child who displays a new and unusual form of psychological attributes so that shows special characteristics (Carroll & Tober, 1999; Chapman, 2005/2005). This research purposes to understands the image of parenting styles that used by parents to indigo child aged 6-12 years old. This qualitative research uses in depth interview method on three partners of parents from four indigo children who stay in Jakarta. Interview on each subject of this research were began from middle of February 2007 until middle of March 2007. The theory of parenting styles which used in this research directs to Baumrind’s theory (quoted by Berk, 2003; Brooks, 2004; Darling, 1999; Powell & Cassidy, 2001; Santrock, 2001, 2005; Slavin, 1997; Wikimedia Foundation, 2007; Yusuf, 2004). Two partners of the subjects in this research use one kind of parenting style in take care of three indigo children, that is authoritative parenting style. A partner of the other subject use two kinds of parenting styles in take care of an indigo child, that is combination of authoritative parenting style (dominant) and authoritarian parenting style.
